Rather a lot of people are suggesting Middlesbrough will visit the Stadium of Light for a pre-season friendly against Sunderland on Friday 27th July.
Police personnel have supposedly had their leave cancelled given the plethora of stuff going on in the area during the course of those few days. It's airshow weekend in Sunderland and a few miles up the road, South Shields are hosting Celtic, Southampton and Marseille for a summer U23 tournament.
On the same evening, Celtic play Marseille at Mariners Park and presumably both giant clubs will have a smattering of supporters in attendance. Down at Seaburn, the official start to the Sunderland airshow will also be taking place.
For guests making the trip up from Teesside it will presumably be a wonder to visit such a lively part of the region and many will return down the A19 agog at the leisure and recreational pursuits enjoyed by their neighbours to the north.
Sunderland have played Middlesbrough on five occasions in the last couple of years and lost all but one. So Mackems can perhaps be a little jaded at the thought of facing the Teesside brigade again, particularly given the difference in divisions between the two clubs currently.
But, a return to home pre-season friendlies is broadly welcomed on Wearside, although last year's visit from Celtic ended up being an unmitigated disaster. By the time Boro come calling, Jack Ross is likely to have a entirely refreshed look to his new Sunderland side.
Sunderland travel to Portugal to kick-off their pre-season preparations in a couple of weeks time and then have games lined up against Darlington, Grimsby, Hartlepool United and St Mirren
