There's been a flurry of stories about Lamine Kone doing the rounds this weekend. The 29-year-old Ivorian has supposedly moved out of his house in Darras Hall amid continued suggestions he's either returning to France or heading for Turkey.
SM Caen in talks with Kone
Reports in France claim Ligue 1 side SM Caen are in talks with a defender named Kone. Sadly, the Kone in question is actually Bakary Kone who was released by Spanish side Malaga at the end of last week.
Bakary Kone supposedly struggled to settle to life in Spain and speaks no word of Spanish; as opposed to Lamine Kone who has struggled to settle to English football since his fellow French speaker, Younes Kaboul, departed Wearside.
Lamine Kone has been linked with Caen too of course. Folks in France reckon that could still be a goer, despite the side who finished 16th in French football's top tier last season moving to snare Bakary Kone. Bakary Kone is also a centre-back after all.
Lamine Kone has also been suggested as a target of RC Strasbourg who finished last season one place higher than SM Caen. That link appears to have gone cool amidst claims Le Racing balked at either the fee required to land the Sunderland man or were put off by his wage demands.
Even more confusingly, RC Strasbourg actually had Bakary Kone on loan last season. It's not beyond the realms of possibilty that everyone in France has gotten their Kone's mixed up and Lamine might never have been headed for France - either Strasbourg or Caen - at all.
Trabzonspor now after Lamine Kone rather than Papy Djilobodji
So, after being linked with both Didier Ndong and Papy Djilobodji, gossip in Turkey now claims Trabzonspor have turned their attention to Sunderland's other enfant terrible, Lamine Kone.
This one will be doing the rounds tomorrow no doubt to greet the start of the working week. Trabzonspor must be desperate for a defender. As well as Kone and Djilobodji, they were also linked with another north east misfit - Newcastle's Chancel Mbemba - before he went to Porto.
The side who finished fifth in the Super Lig last season have also reportedly run the rule over Liverpool's Ragnar Klavan and Efe Ambrose from Hibernian. Efe Ambrose was linked with both Sunderland and Newcastle last summer by the way.
The Turkish reports claim that Trabzonspor are hoping to land Kone for 7-million-euros but that the deal will be "difficult" - which probably means they can't afford to pay the wages the player is asking.
Almost every story which emerges from Turkey is total claptrap so the chances of Lamine Kone being on his way to Trabzonspor are probably also minimal.
But according to a neighbour posting on popular Sunderland message board Readytogo.net, Lamine packed up his house on Friday ahead of a move away from the north east. So he's headed somewhere.
