Yann M'Vila is about to arrive at Newcastle airport with a view to sealing his permanent transfer from Rubin Kazan. It is set to be a truly glorious day for Sunderland.
Sky Sports reported earlier in the day that M'Vila had agreed a pre-contract with Sunderland for when his contract ends in January, however the revelation that the Frenchman is in the North East on deadline day suggests that a more immediate solution is on the cards. Whether that be a loan until the end of his contract with Rubin Kazan, or a completed transfer remains to be seen.
Twitter imploded this afternoon after the Frenchman revealed via Instagram that he had landed in London and it was quickly established that a connecting flight to Newcastle jetted off not long after. After getting #YannWatch trending on Twitter, it became a waiting game to see if M'Vila would be on the flight.
Newcastle Airport then highlighted camera men were ready and waiting outside the UK Arrivals and it has since been reported that M'Vila is soon to arrive in the North East to complete some sort of transfer. The fee for any permanent deal is said to be around £7 million.
There have been alternative suggestions that the deal is being sorted out in London and that the player will not travel to Wearside before completion of the transfer. Whichever way, M'Vila is definitely in England and it is with a view to sorting out an immediate transfer to Sunderland.
If true, it is definitely a hefty price tag for a player with just four months left on his contract, but the quality of player that he is and the stuttering start Sunderland have had made the signing essential. The fact that he is such a huge hit with the fans will also do wonders for the atmosphere a week on Monday when Everton roll into town.
Whilst the transfer is not complete and I am sure there are some complicated issues to iron out, M'Vila is not expected to be Sunderland's only signing today with Lorient's Didier Ndong, Norwich's Steven Naismith and John Ruddy all tipped to join the Frenchman as deadline day signings. Sunderland are also said to be in the market for a striker, with Leonardo Ulloa mentioned as a possible suitor.
What a day this will turn out to be if we pull it all off!
