Sunderland AFC Transfer News: Moyes To Offload These Players?

Reports continue to suggest that Sunderland have to sell before they can buy, owing to the dire financial situation at the Stadium of Light.

Fenerbahce are being linked with a permanent move for Jeremain Lens. The winger is already at the Turkish club on loan and has impressed, scoring twice and making eight assists in ten Turkish Super League appearances. A swap deal for both Gregory van der Wiel and Emmanuel Emenike has already been rejected out of hand by David Moyes, who has no particular interest in bolstering Sunderland's wage bill with two highly paid players who are most likely not Premier League quality. Instead, Sunderland are quite wisely holding out for a fee of £8 million to make the Dutchman's move permanent.

Adnan Januzaj is the subject of rumours regarding a move to Lyon. It would be a little disappointing to see this move done, because Januzaj has improved significantly after a poor start to the season. Unfortunately, as Januzaj is only here on loan from Manchester United, we have no part in Lyon's transfer negotiations, nor would we see a penny of any potential fee that may materialise. This one's over our heads, and we can only stand back and watch. However, if Januzaj is sold from under our noses, it would free up a spot for us to bring in another domestic loan signing.

Thankfully, it seems like Jermain Defoe is going nowhere. Comments made by West Ham chairman David Gold on Twitter seem to suggest that the Hammers have no further interest in pursuing the striker, at least in part because they believe he will have little resale value in a couple of years. This one probably won't go away for the rest of the transfer window, and there'll be whispers about Defoe for the rest of the month. You might even be inclined to think that a significant chunk of the London-based media would like to see West Ham get their man for next to nothing, but that's a subject for another article...

As for transfers in, there has been very little solid rumour floating around. The latest spurious link to Wearside is Pontus Dahlberg, a 17-year-old Swedish goalkeeper, who would be very unlikely to feature even if he did arrive. David Moyes claims that he's determined to fortify his squad this month, but fans may have to wait until later in the month, after we've sold a couple of players, to see anything come of it.
