The Wearside invasion of London is getting closer and to try and make it easier I thought I would use some of my experience in London following The Lads to give you some ideas and help for the day. Part 1 will look at those who are staying down for the weekend.
SAFC fans have started a campaign to get the recently adopted song ‘Things Can Only Get Better’ by Northern Irish band D:Ream back into the charts, two decades after it graced the number one spot. Join in!
In this regular feature we will be rummaging through the memory banks to pinpoint the earliest and most treasured memories of following Sunderland. This week, blogger Gary McLaughlin takes you back to the late nineties and turn of the millenniun. I have spent so much time on this first paragraph. I wrote about those horrible clichés everyone readily blurts out, you know, rollercoaster amongst others. Yuck. I even made up my own non-sensical one. How do you introduce someone to some of the most magnificent memories which magnanimously moulded the person you are today? Yeah okay too many M’s…
The 2012-13 campaign marked the start of the new national system for the under-18s set-up, with a new Barclays U18 Premier League replacing the old Premier Academy League. This was intended to enable a more secure transition for players with the potential to progress from youth football into the first team. Beginning with the teams playing each other in group leagues, the competition would climax with a play-off in May to decide the champion.
Me and my mate Peddles have been looking forward to this match ever since the fixture list came out. Like a kid on Christmas Eve - the night before I couldn't sleep due to the excitement of watching the lads play. So I got up about 8:30 and made sure I had a decent breakfast. Lucky charms and a pint of Fosters – what every 27 year old (should) eat!
After a summer of discontent for our former captain, Lee Cattermole has declared himself fit to return to the first team – with potentially an appearance on Saturday against Arsenal. So, the question which immediately pops to mind – do we need him? Evidentially… yes! We wrote a little bit about our central midfield plight in our piece regarding Ki Sung-Yeung, and whilst it is the likely weekend debutant...
We Are Wearside is quickly gaining pace and we need to keep on top of the bottomless topics that our great club so generously provides. We’re looking to recruit a couple of proactive and talented writers into our blog team to help keep the site brimming with content. You don’t need to be an experienced blogger...
There are not many days where waking up at 4 o’clock is a good thing, however this time I had Crystal Palace away to look forward too. You have to start with the standard away day breakfast - bacon sarnie and the first tin of the day! Is it slightly worrying that this was at 4:30am? The taxi arrived at 5:20am and off we went - picking up the other lads on the way heading straight to Newcastle Central Station.
