If you haven’t heard, Alfie is a hero!
SAFC have received two massive boosts with the season’s end just a few days old as three confirm their intentions to remain on Wearside next season
I’ve had a canny time writing about SAFC – but this was the most enjoyable few hours of the lot! Here are my top ten Super Kevin Phillips goals. Obviously, I’ve had to miss out a fair few corkers given I could only include 10 of his 130 glorious goals in red and white. Complete with videos for 8 of them!
As the typical Sunderland fan will probably know, we’ve gone through a fair few peaks and troughs. One of our dizziest highs was winning the FA Cup back in 1973, while we have spent some unwanted time in the third tier. Relegation this season would rank as a big disappointment, however our run to the League Cup final, although ultimately unsuccessful, was memorable in so many ways.
There has been a remarkable amount of agenda fuelled media attention relating to the Ji Dong-Won fiasco. Yet more embarrassment shovelled over a desperately depressing climax to the season. Whilst we’re clutching at proverbial straws to find specks of hope in situations that should make little difference – I can’t help but suggest this might work in our favour.
Here are a couple of other guides for SAFC fans heading to Wembley depending on how you get there. This time we cover driving down, getting the coach and the train from Wearside. If you’re going down on Saturday you should be reading Part 1.
The campaign is flying high and currently ‘Things Can Only Get Better’ sits in the top 40 on iTunes and top 20 on Amazon (correct at the time of publishing). D:Ream, the band behind the former UK number one, have caught wind of this and DJ/Producer/Vocalist Alan Mackenzie kindly took the time to answer a few questions for We Are Wearside.
The Wearside invasion of London is getting closer and to try and make it easier I thought I would use some of my experience in London following The Lads to give you some ideas and help for the day. Part 1 will look at those who are staying down for the weekend.
SAFC fans have started a campaign to get the recently adopted song ‘Things Can Only Get Better’ by Northern Irish band D:Ream back into the charts, two decades after it graced the number one spot. Join in!
In this regular feature we will be rummaging through the memory banks to pinpoint the earliest and most treasured memories of following Sunderland. This week, blogger Gary McLaughlin takes you back to the late nineties and turn of the millenniun. I have spent so much time on this first paragraph. I wrote about those horrible clichés everyone readily blurts out, you know, rollercoaster amongst others. Yuck. I even made up my own non-sensical one. How do you introduce someone to some of the most magnificent memories which magnanimously moulded the person you are today? Yeah okay too many M’s…
