USGP 2024: what the sprint race and qualifying tell us

0

The 2024 United States Grand Prix is just a few hours away, and all eyes are on the front row.

While Verstappen remains the favorite to win the 2024 USGP, despite Norris taking pole position, yesterday’s qualifying and sprint race have unveiled potential surprises. Ferrari and McLaren seem to be performing at an equal level, ready to shake up Red Bull’s plans.

Norris on Pole, Verstappen on the hunt

During yesterday’s qualifying, Max Verstappen couldn’t secure pole position, partly due to George Russell’s crash in Q3. This allowed McLaren’s Lando Norris to put in an extraordinary lap and claim pole position. Although pleased with his achievement, Norris admitted that Verstappen could have improved his time without the yellow flag interruption and if he hadn’t botched his first run. Indeed, in one of the last corners, the Dutchman almost lost control of his F1 car, costing him the 0.2 seconds advantage he had built up entering sector three. Carlos Sainz from Scuderia Ferrari was also well-positioned before the session was halted. The Spanish driver showed strong pace with times close to both Norris and Verstappen, suggesting that Ferrari might be in contention this afternoon.

Scuderia Ferrari close behind

Scuderia Ferrari impressed during the sprint race with a fighting Carlos Sainz, finishing second after overtaking Norris on the last lap. Leclerc, meanwhile, battled for fourth place, showing that Ferrari has solid race pace. The two Ferrari drivers certainly gave us some scares at times but treated us to thrilling on-track battles for nearly half of the sprint race. Thank you, guys! The sprint race data shows that Ferrari can keep up with the pace set by Red Bull Racing, which is great news for the fans. If Ferrari can avoid strategic mistakes and manage tire degradation well, they could be a serious threat to Verstappen. Additionally, with high temperatures expected for the race, tire management will be crucial, especially since the Circuit of the Americas is tough on tires. Ferrari will need to watch out for tire overheating, a problem that has often plagued the team this season, although there are clear improvements compared to previous years.

Strategy and tire management: how to win the USGP?

From what we’ve seen, the United States Grand Prix could be decided by tire management. Pirelli is predicting a two-stop race for most teams, using medium and hard tires. Verstappen and Red Bull Racing have opted for a high downforce setup, a choice that should help with better tire management in the Austin heat. McLaren, on the other hand, adjusted Norris’s car setup after the sprint race to better handle tire degradation. If they can maintain good race pace and avoid rapid tire wear, Norris might be able to challenge Verstappen. Remember, the two drivers are now just 54 points apart in the Formula 1 Championship standings, putting immense pressure on McLaren.

A truly unexpected collaboration between F1 and a toy manufacturer

On October 9, 2024, Formula 1 announced an unexpected multi-year partnership: teaming up with toy manufacturer Mattel and its brand Hot Wheels.

Combining 1:64 scale miniatures with F1 cars is like a dream come true, thanks to the partnership signed between Formula 1 and toy giant Mattel with its brand Hot Wheels. For many fans, it’s a fantasy soon to be realized, and it shows once again Stefano Domenicali’s commitment to modernizing our favorite sport. Let’s take a closer look in this unexpected collaboration.

Miniature cars celebrating Formule 1

The collaboration kicked off immediately after the announcement with the release of a unique F1 car, which will be followed by a complete collection in 2025. The limited-edition collectible car sports a special Hot Wheels livery designed for the occasion. Featuring a metal chassis, interchangeable tires, and the iconic number ’68’ on the nose to pay tribute to the year the toy brand was launched, this model is designed to appeal to fans of both worlds. To acquire this little collectible, it will cost you $25, but hurry up; I don’t think it will be available for pre-order for long. The 2025 collection will include replicas of cars from every Formula 1 team, just like the sets form the Lego collection, I presume. My wallet is already bracing itself…

Immersive experiences for fans in the paddocks

The collaboration goes beyond the collectibles, as it also includes immersive events at various Grands Prix throughout the season. Special activities and interactive experiences will light up the paddocks, giving families a hands-on way to dive into the worlds of Hot Wheels and Formula 1. Picture creating your own custom track or participating in miniature car races-sounds like fun, right?

Eight billion cars. That’s the number of Hot Wheels sold since the brand’s creation in 1968. Its success speaks for itself, and it’s clear that this played a big part in sealing the deal for this partnership. By collaborating with such an iconic brand, Formula 1 extends its reach well beyond its traditional fanbase, targeting younger audiences often introduced to racing through toys. For Hot Wheels, the deal is also a win, as it taps into the “kidult” market, a growing group of adult collectors passionate about toys and collectibles.

The mistake McLaren must not repeat in 2024 Formula 1 season

Formula 1 seems to want to refresh its brand image

This partnership with Mattel isn’t the first of its kind for F1. In recent weeks, Formula 1 has teamed up with brands like Lego to create sets inspired by race cars, and even luxury giant LVMH for more high-end, exclusive collaborations. Liberty Media, the company that owns and operated the F1brand, is clearly signaling its intent to attract new audiences and refresh the image of our favorite sport through innovative partnerships.

The mistake McLaren must not repeat in 2024 Formula 1 season

0

As the 2024 Formula 1 drivers’ championship tightens, the rivalry between McLaren teammates Norris and Piastri could tip the balance in Verstappen’s favor.

With both drivers in the hunt for points, it’s easy to draw parallels to McLaren‘s tricky 2007 season, when Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso went head-to-head for the title. With six Grands Prix still to go, McLaren must avoid repeating its old mistakes if it hopes to secure both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships.

Read more:

What was the McLaren’s first mistake in 2007?

In 2007, McLaren was preparing an intense season as two titans of racing joined their ranks. Two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso and the sensational rookie Lewis Hamilton were paired. The tone was set from the first race in Australia, with both drivers displaying incredible speed. However, the intensity of their competition quickly led to friction between them. The breaking point came during the Hungarian Grand Prix, when Alonso deliberately blocked Hamilton in the pits during qualifying, marking a total breakdown in their trust dynamic. By the end of the season, at the final race in Brazil, three drivers were still in contention for the title: Hamilton, Alonso, and Räikkönen driving for Scuderia Ferrari. Mechanical issues prevented Hamilton from clinching the victory, and Alonso finished third, leaving Räikkönen to win the world championship. McLaren’s disqualification due to the Spygate scandal only darkened the picture. The tension between Alonso and Hamilton became unbearable, leading the Spanish to leave the British team after just one season.

What is the McLaren’s biggest mistake this season?

Back in 2024, McLaren is again in a tricky position. Lando Norris, who’s been on the grid for nearly six years and endured McLaren’s five difficult seasons, now shares the garage with rookie Oscar Piastri, who has shown immense potential. We agree, it’s a problem without being one. They have perhaps the best pair of drivers on the grid, both talented, young and mature enough. While things started off smoothly, McLaren’s strategy of having Norris let Piastri pass for his first win in Hungary planted the first seed of rivalry. Throughout the season, particularly at the Italian GP and in Baku, Piastri demonstrated that he won’t back down from a fight with Norris. This wouldn’t be much of an issue if the team weren’t vying for any titles, but this year, Verstappen isn’t as untouchable as he once was. Just like in 2007, McLaren has failed to establish a clear hierarchy between its drivers. And just like in 2007, the drivers’ title could come down to the wire, with McLaren potentially missing out on a win, leaving its top driver second-best.

How can McLaren secure Formula 1 both championships?

First, let’s address the constructors’ championship. That victory seems nearly in the bag. Both drivers are performing exceptionally well, and there’s still a mutual respect between Norris and Piastri, which has kept them from clashing on track. I believe they will continue to bring in big points. Red Bull Racing is far behind, and despite their improved performance at the Singapore GP, Perez is too far off the pace. Lastly, the drivers’ title, this is where McLaren must ensure that Piastri supports Norris in defeating Verstappen. As l’ve mentioned in this article, Norris can’t afford any mistakes, and Piastri needs to get between his teammate and the Dutchman. Arriving in Formula 1 in 2023, Oscar Piastri is is truly talented, and it’s only natural that he wants to prove himself in his second season. McLaren can allow its teammates to battle it out in 2025, and by then, perhaps both will be fighting for the drivers’ title alongside a much less dominant Verstappen, and maybe even two Ferrari drivers.

US Grand Prix: why Red Bull is facing controversy

0

Red Bull Racing is under the spotlight as the United States Grand Prix kicks off, following the revelation of a device capable of adjusting the front bib height on the RB20.

Both Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen addressed the issue during the press conference, defending the team against the accusations. Meanwhile, the team is preparing to test new upgrades for the Austin GP, with Verstappen cautious about the impact these updates might have.

Read more:

Perez and Red Bull’s cheating allegations

Earlier this week on Thursday, a hot topic lit up the paddock: Red Bull was accused of using a device to modify the front bib height between qualifying and the race. I talked about it in this article. This practice, if proven true, would clearly violate parc fermé regulations. Sergio Perez was quick to deny these accusations. “There’s nothing we do with that. In fact, we’ve never even talked about it,” said the Mexican driver, firmly convinced that this device has never been used under parc fermé rules. The debate sparked after the FlA announced its intention to tighten controls to prevent illegal manipulations between sessions. While some, like Lewis Hamilton, praised Red Bull’s technical innovation, others, like Oscar Piastri, expressed doubts. According to Perez, such suspicions are common in Formula 1, where each team watches its rivals closely, and it’s completely normal in a sport where innovation is key to performance. However, he admitted that the increased scrutiny from the FlA could influence how the weekend plays out. “I think it’s up to the FIA to decide whether it’s legal or not,” Perez added.

Verstappen on the expected upgrades for the Pirelli United States Grand Prix

At the same time, Max Verstappen shared his thoughts on Red Bull’s upgrade package for the United States Grand Prix. Although these updates have been touted as significant, the three-time world champion remains cautious about the results. “I haven’t tried it in the simulator yet, so we’ll see how it goes,” Verstappen said. Despite the team’s excitement, Verstappen doesn’t expect drastic changes. He reminds us that on tracks like Singapore, where Red Bull struggled, they shouldn’t expect automatic dominance. “We’ve already had some limitations with this car throughout the year. Now, we’re trying to improve it, but don’t expect everything to change overnight,” he explained. He’s right to be cautious, in my opinion—better to surprise than to disappoint fans. The upcoming sprint weekend also complicates matters for the engineers, with only one practice session to test the new parts. That means less time to fine-tune the F1 car, so Verstappen stresses the need to rely on the data collected during this short session.

Red Bull Racing and McLaren in a strategic battle

As Red Bull gears up for the Pirelli United States Grand Prix, the team is keeping a close eye on its rivals, especially McLaren. With impressive performances from Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in recent races, and the English team climbing back to the top of the standings, the pressure is on Red Bull to maintain Verstappen’s lead. While the new parts on the RB20 have yet to show their full potential, Verstappen knows he’ll need to step up, especially against a rising McLaren team. On the other hand, Perez is confident that the FIA will make the right decisions and avoid any unnecessary controversy. For him, this situation is a classic example of the fierce rivalry in Formula 1, where every technical detail can tip the scales in the championship. I think he’s right here too, considering that just three races ago in Azerbaijan, the situation surrounding the use of a tricky part was the exact opposite with McLaren.

This article explores the current situation surrounding Red Bull’s front bib adjustment device just days before the US Grand Prix. It looks at both Verstappen’s cautious optimism regarding the team’s upgrades and Perez’s firm denial of any illegal activity.

Eddie Jordan forecasts: “If Verstappen doesn’t win the 2024 title, he’ll leave Formula 1”

0

Is Max Verstappen’s future at Red Bull Racing really at risk if the Dutchman doesn’t secure another title in 2024?

Jordan F1 Grand Prix, remember? Those yellow F1 cars from 1991 to 2005! Eddie Jordan, the former F1 team boss, is convinced that Verstappen’s future in Formula 1 is at risk if he doesn’t take the title in 2024. Despite his multi-year contract with Red Bull Racing, the Dutch driver could very well leave earlier than expected.

Read more:

Who is Eddie Jordan, the man who knows the Formula 1 backstages?

Eddie Jordan isn’t just a random commentator; his words shouldn’t be taken lightly. Eddie is a former driver turned team boss of Jordan Grand Prix, a team he founded in 1991. Known for discovering young talent, his team launched talented drivers like Michael Schumacher. Jordan has been deeply involved in the world of Formula 1 and knows how to read the internal dynamics of teams, which is why his statements carry weight. After selling his team in 2005, Jordan remained an influential commentator, often going against the grain but rarely off the mark. When he speaks the paddock listens to him, and I think we might pay attention.

Max Verstappen under pressure at Red Bull Racing

Since Red Bull Racing took the lead in 2021, Max Verstappen has won almost everything, becoming literally the driver number 1 in the sport. With three world titles in the pocket (Already! I can’t believe it!), he’s often regarded as a future record holder as are Hamilton and Schumacher. But in 2024, a new reality could break his momentum. Verstappen has a solid contract with Red Bull until 2028, but as Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s advisor, recently pointed out, there are clauses that could allow Max to leave earlier. The champion has never hidden his desire to retire early and could decide to leave if the results or the team’s atmosphere don’t meet his expectations. The main threat to Red Bull comes from the other constructors’ team. Mercedes-AMG, Scuderia Ferrari, and even Aston Martin are teams eager to snap up Verstappen. Furthermore, tense relations between Christian Horner and Jos Verstappen, Max’s father, suggest that a move could be on the cards.

Leaving Red Bull Racing for which team?

First, the most likely option is that Verstappen stays with Red Bull. Despite a decline in performance, it remains one of the fastest teams on the grid, and Max is comfortable there. However, if he were to leave Red Bull, he has two options. He could stay in Formula 1 and join a team that has never hidden its interest in him, like Mercedes-AMG or McLaren, but all the seats are already locked in. He’d have to wait until the shorter contracts expire, like Russell’s at the end of the 2025 season, for example. But honestly, it’s hard to imagine Toto Wolff letting go of Russell. The other option is for him to simply leave Formula 1. Fed up with the FIA controversies or feeling burned out from the constant pressure, Verstappen has already mentioned the idea of hanging up his helmet well before he turns 30. Anyway, for now, he remains at the top of the standings, and there are only 6 Grand Prix left for the outcome to be decided

McLaren seems to have locked in the Constructors’ Championship title, but the top 3 is not yet decided. There’s a 52-point gap between Verstappen and Norris, with momentum favoring Lando. Verstappen will remain champion if he finishes P2 in every race. The pressure is at its peak.

There are 6 races left: 2 triple headers, 3 sprint races. We’re in a situation where anything can happen. Austin marks the start of the penultimate stretch of the season, and with this weekend’s sprint race, surprises could still be in store. Let’s dive into the 5 things you need to know to enjoy the 2024 United States Grand Prix.

Piastri to Red Bull in 2025?

There’s talk that he could join Red Bull to replace Perez next year. This rumor is wild. Since Thursday, a strong buzz has been circulating in the paddock, suggesting Piastri isn’t happy with how he’s being treated at McLaren, particularly playing a supporting role to Norris. He’s said to be willing to leave McLaren to take Perez’s seat, as Perez has been lacking pace. Marko has pointed out the shortcomings of the Mexican driver and hinted that some top team drivers might have exit clauses in their contracts. Even though I think the situation is largely exaggerated, where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and let’s not forget Piastri’s agent is Mark Webber, a former driver with strong ties to Red Bull Racing. Piastri has been beaten over the season, so it’s normal that he’s helping Norris in his bid for the drivers’ championship. Piastri himself had stated that he was ready to help Lando in this final stretch of the Formula 1 season. This rumor might be coming from his camp, trying to put pressure on McLaren.

Haas signs a partnership with Toyota:

Toyota has signed a multi-year deal with Haas F1 Team. It starts this weekend with Toyota GR branding on the F1 car and on the suits. This is significant because it’s the first time in 5 years that the Japanese automaker returns to Formula 1. While it’s not an additional manufacturer on the grid, it’s still a major name in the auto and motorsport world. This is important for Haas as Toyota will provide access to their Cologne facility. The partnership will include design and technical services. In exchange, Toyota will benefit from the visibility that Formula 1 offers. This is the first time Haas has evolved its structure, but it will remain a customer of Scuderia Ferrari for important parts, including the engine. Finally, this partnership aims to improve cost efficiency.

Daniel Ricciardo retires

The Australian driver has been ejected from his seat. He’s still a great driver whom I personally liked a lot, and we can thank him. He left a mark in the paddock with his smile, flair on track, and 8 victories. Unfortunately, his time had already come when he left F1 the first time, and his return was somewhat in vain. In Formula 1, you have to be good. There’s no room for average drivers, and you must step aside. I think the way Ricciardo departed wasn’t great, especially for someone who did so much for Red Bull. Liam Lawson will take his place, having already raced at the end of last season, with one clear objective: to beat Tsunoda.

Renault ends its F1 engine program

We’ve discussed it a lot on this blog, Renault is ending its F1 engine development program. The French automaker had a goal with Alpine F1 Team: cut costs as much as possible and put everything in place to chase success, even if it meant letting go of their F1 past and their development center in Virx-Chatillon. A short-term sale isn’t necessarily planned, and the Alpine F1 car is expected to run with a Mercedes engine in 2026. I find it unfortunate that Alpine F1 Team will become a customer team, especially when they had everything needed to succeed: chassis, engine, and all the key parts of an F1 car. Could this be a sign that Renault is planning to divest from the team in the medium/long term? By the way, for the USGP, they will bring an orange livery. Maybe a way to get closer to McLaren?

Under pressure for the 2024 USGP

First, Red Bull. They’ve lost P1 in the Constructors’ Championship to McLaren, and now the threat comes from behind: Ferrari. Verstappen hasn’t won since the Spanish GP. However, things have improved since Baku, and they’re bringing a significant upgrade this weekend. He must maintain his consistency, even if he doesn’t win. As for Perez, I find it hard to believe in a resurgence at the end of this season. On the Mercedes side, it’s been a while since they’ve shone. They’ve been damage-controlling for months, but there are still disappointments regarding the performance of their F1 car, especially with tire wear. Toto Wolff has said they used the long break to work on a major upgrade that will be introduced at the United States Grand Prix. This upgrade will be the last of the season. Ferrari is in a similar situation but less severe. Scuderia Ferrari disappointed at the Singapore GP and needs to bounce back. They too are bringing a new and final upgrade package. Let’s not forget that Leclerc was on pole last year in Austin.

Red Bull Racing confirms the existence of a front bib adjustment device on the RB20

Red Bull Racing confirms the existence of a front bib adjustment device on the RB20

0

Red Bull Racing confirms the existence of a device to adjust the front bib height on its F1 cars RB20.

This news comes just one day before the free practice sessions kicking off the United States Grand Prix, following the FlA’s decision to tighten controls to prevent such maneuvers from happening between qualifying and the race. According to Red Bull, the system cannot be tampered with once the car is assembled, but other teams aren’t happy about it.

Read more:

Red Bull accused of cheating?

It all started when some teams began suspecting Red Bull Racing of playing with the height of its front bib during parc fermé, which is completely prohibited. Once the qualifying session starts, the cars enter the “parc fermé” configuration, and no further adjustments are allowed, except for minor tweaks to brake balance and the front wing. The FIA responded by announcing it would closely monitor this situation, using seals to ensure nothing changes after qualifying. Red Bull admitted that such a device exists on the RB20, but they insist it cannot be modified once the car is ready to run. This revelation came after Red Bull had to disclose certain technical details, as required by regulations. So far, there’s no evidence of any rule-breaking, but the FIA has decided to tighten the rules on this matter.

McLaren still playing it safe

This isn’t the first time a team has been in the spotlight for its technical tricks. McLaren also had to explain itself after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix regarding the flexibility of its rear wing, nicknamed “mini-DRS.” After discussions with the FIA, they made some adjustments, and the issue seems settled. The FIA ruled that no penalties would be imposed. But now, with the championship battle heating up, McLaren and Red Bull are keeping a close watch on each other. Every technical innovation matters in this fierce competition. For Red Bull, this issue couldn’t have come at a worse time as the team fights to stay on top. Meanwhile, McLaren is hoping to capitalize on the situation to close the gap in the drivers’ championship.

A high-tension end to the Formula 1 season

The United States Grand Prix kicks off with free practice sessions. The new rules enforced by the FIA aim to ensure all teams are competing on a level playing field. While adjustments are still allowed during practice, any changes after qualifying are strictly prohibited. Red Bull Racing will need to be very careful to avoid any potential penalties. McLaren, on the other hand, hopes this crackdown on controls will strengthen fairness, and they’ll be on the lookout for any opportunity to gain an advantage. With tricky situations in the last three Grands Prix, the regulatory bodies will be doubling down on their efforts.

This article explores the recent revelation of Red Bull’s front bib adjustment device just ahead of the United States Grand Prix. How does Renault plan to transform Alpine F1 Team into Alpine Hypertech?

0

French automaker Renault has just revealed a major project for its historic Viry-Châtillon site, which will soon host Alpine Hypertech.

This cutting-edge center marks a shift toward electrification and high-performance motorsports as the brand prepares to exit F1 engine development by 2026. What are the ambitions behind this drastic change, and what does it mean for the future of Alpine and Renault?

Read more:

A new beginning for Viry-Châtillon

First, you should know that Alpine F1 Team consists of two production sites: Viry-Châtillon in France for the engine, and Enstone in England for the chassis and aerodynamics. With the announcement of Alpine Hypertech, Renault is turning an important page in its storied history. For decades, Viry-Châtillon has been the birthplace of F1 engines for Renault F1 Team and later Alpine F1 Team. Now, the focus will shift to advanced technologies like high-density batteries and electric motors. The goal? To transform Viry-Châtillon into a true innovation lab for Alpine, Renault’s performance brand, and the Renault Group itself. Starting in late 2024, the site will contribute to the development of the upcoming Alpine Supercar and explore new technologies for electric sports vehicles.

The end of Renault F1 engines: A strategic shift?

There won’t be a Renault engine in Formula 1 by 2026. But despite this decision, Renault fully intends to remain a player in motorsport. Alpine Hypertech will allow Viry-Châtillon to maintain a “F1 monitoring unit,” tasked with preserving its F1 technology expertise. In other words, even though the brand is stepping away from engine development, it will remain connected to this high-performance domain. This isn’t the first time Renault has implemented such a system. Employees affected by this shift will be supported through training and new roles within Alpine Hypertech. Renault’s mission is clear: to preserve the skills of its teams and project them into a motorsport universe where performance no longer depends on traditional combustion engines.

From now on, Alpine will run fully electric.

Alpine has never hidden its sporty DNA, and Hypertech is set to reinforce this vision. The center will develop technologies for various motorsport programs, including the World Endurance Championship (WEC), Formula E, and even Rally-Raid — all disciplines in which Alpine is involved. After all, Alpine F1 Team is just the Formula 1 arm of a French automaker with broader motorsport commitments. This multidisciplinary approach confirms Renault’s determination to keep Alpine at the forefront of innovation, all while adapting to new environmental regulations in Europe. Although Alpine’s future in F1 seems uncertain following the end of engine development, the brand hasn’t completely exited the sport. Viry-Châtillon will continue to contribute to technological advancements in motorsports, focusing on new challenges like electrification and battery improvement. It’s a bold bet that could redefine the future of motorsports for the brand, which is now fully embracing an electric future. We’ll know more in the coming years.

The 2024 United States Grand Prix brings a wave of special liveries this week, and Haas is no exception.

For its home race in Austin, the American team is not only unveiling a stunning new livery-one I find particularly impressive-but also rolling out a major technical upgrade package designed to boost performance. Haas is going all out!

A special livery for its home Grand Prix

Haas has made it a tradition to showcase special liveries at its Formula 1 home races in Miami, Las Vegas, and here in Austin. This weekend, the VF-24s of Nico Hülkenberg and Kevin Magnussen will sport a unique design, proudly paying tribute to the team’s American roots. You’ll see the familiar white and red colors, the raw carbon fiber black, and a few added touches of blue. There’s also some classic American symbolism: a majestic bald eagle head and stars on the air intakes and front wing. These subtle changes really make the difference. Additionally, for the first time, we’ll see the Toyota Gazoo Racing logo on the nose, mirrors, and rear wing of the cars, as the Japanese manufacturer has signed a new partnership with Haas, starting this weekend. This collaboration is a significant step forward for the team.

Crucial technical updates for the season’s final stretch

Besides the standout design, Haas is introducing a technical update package that’s being the team’s last major upgrade for the season. Haas’ Technical Director, Andrea De Zordo, shared, “In Austin, we’re bringing our main evolution for the final part of the season, which focuses primarily on the development of the floor and bodywork.” The goal of these changes? To increase downforce and make the car faster through corners. The Circuit of the Americas is the perfect place to test these updates, with its sweeping turns in sectors 1 and 3. If all goes well, Haas could see a real boost in performance at this critical point in the championship.

Haas’ position in the standings

At the moment, Haas is sitting in P7 in the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship, just behind Visa Cash App RB, trailing by only 3 points. These updates could help them close the gap and finish the season on a high. The team is optimistic about the impact of these changes on their performance for the remaining races, but let’s be real: at this stage of the championship, every point is incredibly tough to earn. The top 10 finishing spots are typically locked down by the five top teams, so Haas will need a standout race or some unpredictable race incidents to scrape up a few extra points. It’s a tight battle in the midfield, but every improvement matters.

Why did McLaren add chrome to there F1?

McLaren’s official statement explains that this chrome livery, showcased at the 2024 US Grand Prix, represents a push for innovation in design, not just for the team but also for Chrome. It’s also a clever nod to the web browser’s name. Beyond the car itself, chrome details will appear on the race suits of drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, adding an extra layer of style to the whole setup.

McLaren’s love affair with chrome in Formula 1

This isn’t the first time McLaren has brought back its iconic chrome from the Hamilton era. Last year at the 2023 British Grand Prix, the team was a big hit with a partially chrome livery, pretty different from this current design. Back then, I was already a big fan of the chrome look, which was inspired by McLaren’s golden age when. In the early 2000s, they were dominating Formula 1 in partnership with Mercedes. During that period, McLaren claimed their last prestigious titles: Mika Häkkinen in 1998 and 1999, and Lewis Hamilton’s driver championship in 2008.

McLaren delight us with special liveries this season

The 2024 season has already seen many special liveries from McLaren, each with its own unique meaning. Earlier in the year, at the Japanese Grand Prix, the team paid tribute to local culture with a livery inspired by Edomoli, a form of traditional Japanese calligraphy. At Monaco, they honored the legendary Ayrton Senna Who remains the driver with the most GP wins there with a stunning yellow and green livery. To be honest, I feel like there’s a serious lack of yellow on the grid this year. Then at the Singapore GP last time, McLaren went retro, incorporating a bold two-tone design reminiscent of their cars from the 1980s and 1990s, featuring a prominent white section across the middle of the bodywork. This latest chrome livery is one of my favorites this year and fits perfectly within McLaren’s lineup of creative and historically inspired designs.

Alpine and Haas: more special liveries for the 2024 US GP

The 2024 US Grand Prix will also see other teams rocking special liveries. Alpine F1 Team has rolled out a bold orange design in partnership with Xbox to promote the new Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny video game. Meanwhile, Haas, the American team, has also prepared a unique livery to celebrate their home Grand Prix, making this weekend in Austin a colorful spectacle for Formula 1 fans. I always enjoy seeing fresh liveries on the grid. Have a look at our related articles!
